yes. yes i do. and yes i am. sigh.
judgie pantses.
so i have issues with movies, and i know that they're not going to be what i want them to be all the time. i get that. i don't even mind all that often that movies are different than their original books. i mean, the bourne trilogy is mad different than the books, and yet in my humble opinion, the best trilogy of films i've ever seen.
so why do i have issues with spider-man?
let me just preface this by saying that spider-man 2 is like one of my all time favorite flicks. it was pretty bad ass on all of the levels. and joel mchale was a bank manager. that's just wonderful. also, i had no issue with the actual changes to spider-man's physiology. the webs out of the wrists, i dug. even though technically it should have been out of the bootocks.
my problem with the trilogy has a lot more to do with their crazy casting and characters. i mean, kirsten dunst i've never really ever been a fan of. and i'm probably less of one now. i mean, mary jane? really? uhm, no. come on guys. if you're gonna use her, use her as gwen stacy. that was peter's actual girlfriend in highschool so i think that would have been a better use of her talent. not to mention, green goblin woulda done kilt her character off at the end of the first flick.

and i mean, kirsten dunst's hair is naturally blond, like gwen's, and bryce's is naturally red, like mj's. does this make too much sense? i think so.

for spider-man 3, why so many of the bad guys? just make it about venom. sandman kind of actually did nothing. i mean

that's about it as far as casting goes i think. everyone else was cast pretty flippin' well.
oh, the soundtracks were all pretty awful as well.
the score was hep, thanks to danny elfman, until sam raimi pissed him off and he left. man, the third score was pretty sad comparably.
luckily they're doing a fourth film which should be as exciting as superbabies: baby geniuses 2. mmm-hmm. that's the good stuff.
on a lighter note, i hear they're also doing a sequel for bull durham. yay!
sigh again.

So you're really just now commenting on the Spider-man movies? I've only seen the first two. I have yet to see the third. Much like Pirates of the Caribbean. I've seen the first two... not the third.
Cool. I'm glad I have the link to your blog. I'm a commenter. :) I hope you don't mind! Check out my blog. It's uber exciting....
judgie pantses? yes, indeed I am. I was just excited to see topher grace at all-since he is one of the hottest guys around. there lies the problem I guess. You see talent and art-I see-well-hot men. :)
Are they really making a fourth or are you kidding? -Nadia
they are really making a fourth. and they are also really making a sequel to bull durham. even more sigh.
Yeah you've hit all the points that I have felt about the series. Although I must say even though Macguire comes off like a robot emotionally, I actually like him as Petey.
As for #3 I wish they would have just skipped the whole venom thing. I never liked that character and god forbid the dredge up carnage for #4. Spiderman fighting spidermen is just kinda dumb in my mind.
did you know your homeboy karl urban is bones in the new star trek movie? talk about an odd casting choice. apparently bones was a badass before he became a crotchity old man.
tm plays the awkward nerl role pretty well, probably because it's not much of a stretch from real life. peter parker (in the comics) wasn't nearly as awkward, i don't think. shy--yes. socially awkward around everyone except his aunt? no.
i tend to like slightly darker comic book movies than the utter campiness-with-special-effect spiderman. the original batman seemed to have the perfect mix of acting skill and special effects, while not putting it over the top.
x-men movies have a lot of bling and some campy dialogue, but there are some darker parts that really pull it together (for me, at least) as far as comic book movies are concerned. thomas jane was a pretty cool punisher, judge dredd was ridiculous, the league of extraordinary gentlemen was, in my father-in-law's words, "dumb as dirt," and the two original sequels to batman sucked like nothing had sucked in quite a long time (maybe not since superman iv).
the idea of unbreakable being comic-esque made it the second dumbest movie ever made. i enjoyed hellboy. the watchmen has put a glimmer of hope in me.
right on, indeed.
and yes, i did say "two original batman sequels." like there's something original about a sequel. i'm witty that way.
i'm not gonna lie. i loved me unbreakable. i think it's a spectacular superhero flick. totally blindsided me. oh, and bruce kicks ass.
unbreakable != watchable, imnsho.
no worries, tho. there's plenty we agree on. margaritas. white russians. tits. rare steaks.
